Some Travel Books

Mrs. McGruder is a great armchair traveler.

The Lamplighter By Anthony O’Neill

According to the cute little sticker on the spine this is a mystery book but is perhaps more of a suspense novel, possibly a ghost story or fantasy. With an appealing setting (1880’s Edinburgh), a series of horrific murders, a fragile, disturbed young woman, a dedicated police detective, a young cemetery caretaker and his philosophy professor friend this book is interesting in a vague way. It has lots of psychological/philosophical ramblings but the ending does not make it really clear as to “who done it”. That may have been the author’s intention but I like my endings more clear cut. So for this reason, I’m not sure I’d recommend this book – not really my cupppa tea.
